Day 6: Off to Sydney
Tuesday, November 2, 1999

Woke up around 7:30am and said good-bye to Matthew as he caught the bus to work. JP and I walked down to the "Dog Swamp" shopping center (what a name, eh?) to grab some coffee and then chatted for a bit. James came by at about 9, as he had graciously offered to take me to the airport (it was also great to get to see him one last time, hopefully he'll come and visit SF some time, such a nice and genuine guy).

The flight to Sydney was uneventful and gave me some time to put together a couple of the pages for this site. As I thought back on the weekend in Perth, there were so many good memories. Matthew's friends were all so warm and welcoming, they really made the weekend! Hopefully some of them will take JP and I up on our suggestion that they come and visit the States so we can return the favor.

After waiting for my luggage I caught a cab to the Millennium Hotel in King's Cross, arriving around 7pm. It's a very nice hotel, located very close to the clubs and shopping.

The Millennium Hotel

Great view of the city from my window, I can see out to the ocean, most of the harbor and the opera house. More pictures to follow tomorrow.

Checked in with work on the laptop (everyone's really slaving away back there...), uploaded a few pages to the website, then ordered some room service.

Debated for a while whether or not to go out, but I was really tired and sleep seemed like a good idea. Tuesday night probably wouldn't be very busy anyway... Checked out some Australian night time TV drama, seems about the same as in the US.

During my stay in Perth I picked up on a few phrases which I hadn't heard before:

New Australian Phrases

Ozzy Someone from Australia (usage: "Look at that hunky Ozzy boy over there.")
Snog Making out (usage: "Having a bit of a snog, eh?")
Mole Slut (usage: "What have you been up to, you mole?")
Pash Rash Dried mouth/lips after a heavy kissing session (uasge: "Gonna have a nasty pash rash in the morning!")
Pissed Drunk (usage: "I don't remember that, I must have been really pissed!")
