Sunday, December 31
We woke up around 6, grabbed some coffee in the Bistro and headed to the bridge to get a look at the sea. We arrived at Devil Island and then the zodiacs headed for shore.
We landed at a colony of about 20,000 penguins that were all nesting along the shore. We hiked to the top of the island where we had a great view of he beach and the ship just offshore.
We spent almost 2 hours between the hike and sitting on the rocks watching the penguins by the beach, so much fun!
After lunch on the ship we spent more time on the observation deck. At 4 Rick got a massage, while Randy got video from the bow, then we had dinner at 7:30.
After dinner the light was amazing, a nice orange glow settling over calm seas. We took lots of pictures and enjoyed the scenery, such a fantastic way to spend New Year's Eve! Around 10:30 we decided we'd head to the cabin and watch the water from bed. We celebrated midnight by sending our friends a picture of penguins on an ice floe (satellite Internet is amazing!) then drifted off to sleep.
