Vancouver Island

After breakfast we packed up the RV and backed out of our spot, then headed back out to the coast. Stopped in a gravel patch where we pulled out three e-bikes and rode down to Skutz Falls and then over the 66 Mile Trestle. Rode back to the RV, said goodbye to Uj, then drove out to the coast and north about an hour.

Stopped along the way for groceries and wine. Checked in to Puntledge RV Park, had a really nice wide end site with a meadow out the back window. Set up the RV and about half an hour later Shannon & Chris arrived. Hung out in the RV, Randy made chicken adobo for dinner. Had dinner outside, really pleasant.

Oatmeal for everyone for breakfast, then pulled out all 4 e-bikes. Took the car to a couple of waterfalls: Trent Falls (which involved crossing under the freeway on foot and a sketchy muddy descent), Nymph Falls (short hike to a big wide set of falls, very pretty), and Medicine Bowls (2 mile hike to a muddy descent, well worth it, very beautiful).

Back at the RV we had lunch, then rested. Then it was out on the bikes to explore and enjoy Canada Day (Rick's new favorite holiday "Happy Canada Day!). Rode along the water for several miles, then back to the campground.

Relaxed in the RV, then Shannon made delicious quesadillas which we ate outside behind the RV. Talked for a while with our next door neighbors, a very nice couple who lived in the area. Then it was time for some Veep and then bed.

Did workouts with Mickey at 8 & 9, Shannon & Chris headed into town for coffee. Packed up the RV and headed north to Elk Falls. Took the wrong trail for about half an hour(!), then made our way to a cool suspension bridge and lookout over Elk Falls.

Randy headed back to the RV for food while the others spent some time exploring further waterfalls. Drove back to the main highway, then north for about 2 hours to Telegraph Cove. Had a nice corner site.

Set up the RV and chilled for a bit. Then walked over to the Killer Whale Cafe where we had a fun dinner. Then it was back to the RV for a bit more Veep and then bed.

Woke up early (the sun rises at 5:30am!) then headed out in the car towards Port Alice. Beautiful drive. Drove south of the lake to a nice waterfall along a logging road. Drove back north to Port McNeil.

Checked out the ferry schedule and destination, decided to just have lunch at a brewery in town. Chris had a small flight of beer.

Drove back to the campground. Randy chilled while Rick rode e-bikes with Shannon & Chris around the area by the campground. They went down to the water and then saw a black bear (way too close!). Relaxed for the afternoon, then had dinner in the RV.

Had early coffee, then said goodbye to Shannon & Chris. Did workouts with Mickey, then packed up the RV and headed south. Had a 2 hour drive to Campbell River where we checked in to Thunderbird RV. Had a site with the water out the front window. Pulled out 2 e-bikes and rode to the end of the road, then back in to town for a while. Then back to the RV where we relaxed, did laundry, had dinner, and went to bed.
