Beach Walk
We got a relatively late start, around 9am. Breakfast at the buffet was quite an experience: think scrambled egg soup and lightly toasted (not battered) French toast. Not something we were looking forward to repeating.

A walk on the beach sounded like a fine way to spend the morning, so we all put on our bathing suits (and lots of sunblock) and headed for the ocean. Rick spotted a bunch of lizards and iguanas along the way through the hotel grounds, and we even saw a cayman pop it's head up in the middle of a pond. The beach was very wide with dark sand. We walked along, crossed a river that exited from inland, and then down a ways further. We saw a small hotel along the way that looked like it might have a nice restaurant for lunch later on. Just past the town of Tambor the beach ended, becoming very rocky, so we turned back. Rick suggested that we walk along a trail/road that was just off the beach. There were a number of houses along it, in various conditions with some cute gardens.

As we returned to the cute hotel we had seen, we walked in to check it out. It was an amazing place, with wooden bungalows surrounding a pool. On a whim Randy walked in to the office to ask if they had any rooms available. To our amazement, they had two rooms available for the night! We told them to consider them booked, we only needed enough time to return to Playa Tambor and pack our stuff and we'd be right back. We were all extremely happy and the walk back to our hotel went very quickly. At the hotel we packed, keeping the things we needed for the rest of the day and the flight home on top so we didn't have to pack again later. Then we all checked out and jumped in the trusty 4Runner for the 4km trip to Tambor Tropical.

Tambor Tropical
Tambor Tropical consists of 5 buildings, 2 rooms per building (we both had upper floor rooms). The buildings are hexagonal, with a veranda running around 4 sides. The whole thing is made of a deep reddish wood that looks like teak that is all glistening and shiny. The craftsmanship is amazing, even all of the screw and nail holes were countersunk and covered with wooden pegs. The interiors of the rooms are huge, with a bed on a pedestal at the back, a small kitchen with a bar, and an amazing bathroom with a door that looks out on the ocean and a sunken shower. We were all in heaven!

We changed into our swimsuits and went down to the pool where we ordered a drink, dipped in the pool and then had lunch poolside. The palm trees overhead, the ocean close by, we were all gushing about how great the place was. After lunch we sat in the pool for most of the afternoon, laughing, chatting and swimming around. The staff kept coming by to see if we needed anything, it was all amazingly relaxing. Around 4pm Dan and Assana went up to take a nap, while Rick and Randy sat in a pair of chairs on a small wood platform looking out at the ocean. After a while we went up to look around at our room, the large shower in particular... Then we went out onto our veranda and watched the waves for a while.

At 6:30 we all got dressed and picked out a table and chairs that were near the pool on their own little wooden platform for dinner. Our waiter, Moises, was really nice. We had some appetizers and a great meal as we talked and laughed with Dan and Assana. Around 8:30 we were surprised when the lights went off. And not just at our hotel, every light we could see anywhere in the entire bay was out! The moon was bright and it was really beautiful looking up at the palm trees against the starry sky. We continued talked for about half an hour (during which we saw our waiter walking down the road and saying goodnight) then decided it was time for bed since we had to be up early the next morning. The power was still out so we had no fans in the rooms, but it didn't matter, Tambor Tropical had been a fantastic ending spot for our trip.
