Sydney Royal Botanical Garden

Saturday, Day 11 - Previous
Next - Monday, Day 13

We woke up late and had brunch, then covered up with sun-block and walked over to the Botanical Garden. Rick had been looking forward to this since we arrived on Friday. The gardens are very extensive and they have a nice succulent section.

Gallery of succulents.

We walked around for a few hours, taking lots of pictures (and drinking lots of Gatorade).

Rick and the Cacti.

There are a couple of thousand bats that live in the garden.

This was a tropical pyramid.

This was a cool water feature.

Gallery of different flowers from the garden.

Afterwards we went back to the hotel for a nap.

This was a funky rock formation along the water.

Here's where all the Navy boys were from.

The W Hotel Sydney

This crazy place serves small pie crusts with mashed potatoes with peas. Apparently they are world famous. Silly Aussies!

Around 7pm we walked down to the restaurants alongside the wharf that the hotel is part of and found a nice Italian restaurant. We sat outside and were treated to a spectacular sunset. We couldn't actually see the sun, but the colors reflecting off the clouds went from a yellowish-green to orange and then to ribbons of red. One of the prettiest sunsets either of us had seen for quite some time.

At the same time we could see the flock of bats which live in the trees of the botanical gardens heading out to feed for the evening. There were thousands of them heading out in two different directions. After about half an hour of watching them, they were all gone. One of the waitresses said the mysterious part is no one quite knows where they go at night!
