Depart San Jose

Next - Thursday, Day 2

Our limo showed up right on time at 5:45 and zipped us to the airport (after our fiasco at Christmas with a taxi, we figured that the small amount extra for a limo was worth it!). The airport was practically deserted and we had only a short wait before we boarded our flight to Los Angeles.

In L.A. we had to go from the domestic terminal to the international one. When we got there we found out first hand how bad a security line can be. It took us just over two hours to get through, watching all the stupidity of the security employees in full gear along the way.

Suffice it to say that it's not hard to imagine how the person in San Francisco who set off the explosive detector at the airport the day before was able to just walk away from the security checkpoint.

The madness of the international terminal at LAX.

The lines were two hours long, mainly due to the
obvious lack of any kind of planning whatsoever.

With that behind us, we waited in the Quantas lounge for a short time, then boarded the 747-400 for the trip to Sydney. We were in business class, on the upper deck, which neither of us had ever done before. It was very quiet and relaxing, with nice big reclining seats. Thanks to a couple of Ambien from a friend of ours, we both slept about 8 hours after we took off. It was nice to sleep through a big chunk of the flight (it's a 13 hour flight).

The view from above the clouds was peaceful
