From the airport we drove West towards Abel Tasman. We arrived at The Resurgence, a great lodge on 50 acres in the woods, about 45 minutes later. After checking in, we drove to end of the main road and walked to the resurgence, a natural spring that the lodge is named after. Rick decided to run back to get some exercise. At 7 we had cocktails and dinner with the other guests. We met Gwenne and Francesca, cousins who were doing same kayak/hike as us the next day.

Monday - March 2
Up early, breakfast in the lodge at 8. Drove to Abel Tasman, caught water taxi out to Tonga Island. They use tractors to get boats into water. Kayaked around Tonga Island, saw baby seals. Kayaked along the shore to Barks Beach.

Had lunch, hiked to Torrent Bay with Gwenne and Francesca. 2 hour kayak, 2 hour hike. Took the water taxi back to Mahauru. Drove back to lodge, Rick went on a 7 mile run. Delicious dinner in the lodge, of to bed at 10.
