Friday - February 27 - White Island
We picked up a car at the Rotorua airport and then drove about 30 minutes to Treetops Lodge. It's in the middle of 2500 acre reserve, a really beautiful setting. There was weather coming in the next day, so we switched our planned helicopter flight to this afternoon. We were picked up (on the property!) 20 minutes later. The pilot introduced himself as Dife (that's what Rick heard, his name was actually Dave). We flew North to White Island, a volcanic island about 30 miles off the coast. After we landed on the island we walked around for a bit and took pictures.
Flew back over some tall volcanic mountains, across Waiotapu geothermal pools and back to the lodge. Went for a walk to Bridal Veil Falls, Rick tried to kill Randy :-) Delicious dinner at 7 (not 8), off to bed.
