Dive Sites: German Channel, Barrack's Point, Orange Beach (twice)
Weather: Overcast and warm

On our first dive we noticed some large pink balls with clownfish in the center of them. We found out later that they were actually anenomes that had closed up to feed on something. We had never seen that before, but we saw it several times on this trip. We also saw a number of giant clams, some up to 4 feet across. At the beginning of the dive we experienced some big temperature changes as we passed through a thermocline.

After the second dive the boat moored in a small harbor on Pelilu Island. Several of us went ashore for a tour of the island. Our guide, Tangie, showed us the remnants of some planes and armored vehicles from World War II. At the end of the war there was a huge battle on the island as the U.S. retook it from the Japanese, who had built a network of tunnels and caves around the island. It was a month long struggle which wiped most of the vegetation from the island.
