We woke up early and had a great breakfast at the hotel. Tasty croissants with proscuitto and cheese, mmmm. We set out around 7:30 and walked along some twisty roads up to the hill at the edge of the city. Everything was very quiet since it was so early. There was a big church at the top with a large cemetery that wrapped around three sides.

On the way back we ran into the Florence Marathon. We ended up walking with it for a bit as we headed to the Boboli Gardens which we wandered around for a while. We walked back to the duomo and climbed the 414 steps to the top of the bell tower. It was quite a climb, with lots of tight steep steps and three different viewing levels.

We took a short nap in the room and then went out to do a bit of shopping. We didn't really find much, but had fun people watching and navigating the crowds. After showering for dinner, we walked a few blocks to a cute bar Rick had spotted earlier. We had dinner at the hotel, sitting outside watching the crowds go by. It was a lot of fun. We made it up to bed by 10.
