Hearst Castle

August 27, 2005 - Friday afternoon we hopped in Rick's new car and headed down Highway 1. We drove past Monterey and then through Big Sur. It was a great windy road, the new car handled really nicely. We stayed in Cambria, a few miles past Hearst Castle, at the Little Sur Inn. We walked down the street to a nice restaurant where we had drinks and dinner, then we walked home along the boardwalk by the ocean, it was really romantic.

The next morning we had breakfast and drove up to the castle for our first tour. The castle is pretty amazing, it's huge with intricate detail everywhere. We did a second tour at noon where we got to go all the way up to the top of one of the towers and were treated to a look at many more of the interior rooms. Afterwards we drove into downtown Cambria where we had lunch and wandered around some of the shops.

Around 3:30 we headed to the Moonstone Spa where Rick had a massage and Randy had a facial. Ahhhh, very nice! Back at the hotel we changed and then walked down to another great seafood dinner. Sunday morning we drove through the wine country to Paso Robles, and then took 101 back home. A short but fun trip!
