The fog was in when we woke up, which was a sign of things to come during the day. We drove back to the main airport and loaded up the plane, then flew to the other Cordova airport for fuel (the first airport only had jet fuel, no av-gas). Chuck checked the weather report and it looked ok, so we took off and headed towards Anchorage. We followed flew through a number of different valleys, noticing that the smoke from the forest fires in the interior was much thicker.

We ended up having to stop in Eureka, since the pass was fogged in further on. We had lunch and waited for the weather to change, "Kicking Stones" to pass the time. It ended up being about an hour and a half, but things did finally improve (we had walked the length of the runway and back looking for something to do in the meantime). We took off with several people from a tour bus at the rest stop taking pictures of us, and headed West. We flew fairly low, around 600 feet to stay under the cloud cover, but really didn't have any more trouble getting back to Anchorage. Chuck flew us near downtown, which was pretty small by California standards. We landed back at the airport and then Chuck drove us over to the Hertz desk. We thanked Chuck for a wonderful time, he had really made our trip something fantastic!

In the car we drove South to Seward. There was rain along the way, which was kind of cool with the huge snow covered mountains in the background. We checked into the Hotel Seward, and then went to the Chinook restaurant at the small marina for a great seafood dinner. Afterwards we went back to the hotel and watched "The Italian Job" on tape before falling asleep.
