Day 1
Skiing at Whistler/Blackcomb - Feb 9, 2001
Vancouver, British Columbia
Day 2

On Friday the 9th of February we headed to the San Francisco airport for our flight up to Canada. We were lucky at check-in and able to upgrade to first class, it made the trip very comfortable. We rented a 4WD SUV and drove about 140km up to Whistler. Adien and Daisy were out at a party when we arrived, but that was fine since we were tired and wanted to go to sleep.

The next morning we got up, dressed, loaded all the ski gear in the car, and headed over to Whistler Village for breakfast. The girls dropped off the dogs at doggy day care, then we drove up the mountain a bit to park and catch the gondola. The weather was great (though a bit colder than Tahoe!) After stopping so Randy could get some goggles, we proceeded to blast down the mountain over and over again. Adien and Daisy are really fast snowboarders, it was really great to all be evenly matched!

Daisy and Adien (So Cute!)

Heading up the lift at the beginning of the day.

Once we bundled up, we were very comfortable.

Amazing scenery everywhere.

Some cute boys following us up the lift.

Yvonka!

A lone weather station.

Tracks, but not many skiiers.

The weather kept throwing us scenes like this.

Rick lounging in the snow.
The snow was great, and there was even some powder scattered around. Daisy did a great job of leading us through so very varied terrain. We caught the last lift up at 3:30, then waited at the top for a few minutes for the mountain to empty out. Our last run was basically on an empty mountain, it was great.

We didn't have time for a sleigh ride...

Packing up at the end of day 1.

Ready to party!
Back at the condo we all to a short nap, then grabbed some food and changed to get ready for the evening. Some friends were having a party at their house (lots of cute boys!) and then we caught a cab to the village where we danced at SnowBall, the big dance party which caps off Whistler's Gay Ski Week each year. We stayed until about 1am, then caught a cab home, Daisy and Adien stayed to dance some more. When we got back to the condo, we realized that we'd lost the key! Fortunately the cab hadn't left yet, so we had the driver take us back to where the first party had been , where we had left the rental car earlier in the evening. We drove back to the dance party, but couldn't find the girls, so we parked at the condo, starting the engine every 15 minutes or so to stay warm. If we hadn't had the car, things could have been pretty grim, but as it was, we got to spend about 2 hours snuggling in the car until they came home. Definitely not the way we had expected to end the evening!
